In July/2021, the BRIDGE team started activities in the project area, Serra de Monchique.
The fieldwork began with a presentation of the project and the initiation of dialogue with members of the Municipal Committee for the Defence of Forestry against Wildfires of Monchique (CMDFI). The presentation was followed by exploratory visits to the territory with members of Monchique Municipal Council (CMM) and interviews with key players on the subject of wildfires, including the Nature Conservation and Forestry Institute (ICNF), Association of Voluntary Firemen of Monchique, Monchique Alerta Association, Association of Forest Producers of Barlavento Algarvio (Aspaflobal), among others.
These were the first activities in the territory involving local actors from the perspective of participatory action research, with other activities planned in Monchique during Task 1, which aims to understand the social and ecological vulnerabilities, resources and adaptive capacity of Monchique to wildfires.
